From Miami and Fort Lauderdale up through West Palm Beach, and across to Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota, the 9mm service pistol is the gun that sells all year, and CZ just released a new one. The DUTY 4.0 is striker-fired, chambered in 9x19, and built around a serialized internal chassis so the fiberglass-reinforced polymer grip frame is modular. It ships with a direct-mount optics-ready slide, fixed sights and a 4-inch barrel that is not threaded.
Orlando and Kissimmee buyers tend to ask for the compact first: the DUTY 4.0 C runs 15+1 standard or 17+1 with the extended base plate at 770 g and 135 mm tall. The full-size DUTY 4.0 F holds 17+1 (19+1 extended), weighs 780 g and stands 143 mm. Both are sold with or without a manual thumb safety, the MS models. The trigger is CZ's refined SFDA: 5.6±0.9 lbs, 9±1 mm travel, 4 mm reset. Condo home defense, everyday carry, range Sundays: one pistol, $729 MSRP.
Capacity on the carry-size is 15+1, with a 17+1 option through the longer base plate. Height is 5.3 in (135 mm) and the empty weight 27.2 oz (770 g). If you carry, this is the DUTY to look at; if you mostly shoot at the range, see the F.
What is new under the slide is the serialized modular chassis. The serial number lives on the internal chassis, not on the polymer grip, so the frame module is a part you can change while the gun stays the same gun. Around it CZ put a reworked SFDA striker trigger, rated at 25 ± 4 N (5.6 ± 0.9 lbs) with a 0.16 in (4 mm) reset and 9 ± 1 mm (0.4 ± 0.04 in) of travel, and a slide cut for direct-mount optics. CZ's own photos show it wearing Holosun, Aimpoint and Shield reflex sights.
This version has no external safety lever. It relies on three passive safeties, firing pin block, trigger safety and trigger bar safety, and the trigger is the same as on the MS model. Shooters who prefer a lever should pick the MS.
The CZ DUTY 4.0 C suits anyone who wants a modern optics-ready 9mm with CZ's grip and a trigger that is better than the class average: concealed carry where your state allows it, home defense, and range time that does not need a full-size grip.
